For anyone who thinks that stars are inexistent during the day time

This picture of a solar eclipse was taken on August 1st, 2008 in Mongolia. It's amazing how well this picture displays the prominence of the Sun's corona as the Moon blocks out the Sun's glare. Also, I love how the Moon blocks out enough light so that the stars become completely visible in the sky. This picture really helps to understand how stars are always existent in the sky and that they simply do not "disappear" once the Sun comes up. Stars in the day time was something I never considered before it was discussed in my astronomy class this semester, but it's something that I really want to see in the future. My professor was talking about people who are "eclipse chasers", in that they chase eclipses as they happen all over the world. An expensive hobby, but something that I might consider doing.

My photography class is going to the Royal Ontario Museum tomorrow. I've never been there before and I'm honestly so excited to check out the exhibits. The Vanity Fair portraits, that are on display till this upcoming January, are the main reason why this field trip was created in the first place. Not only do I want to see these, but I seriously want to visit the dinosaurs. I've been infatuated with them since I was a little girl and seeing them in skeletal form will be a dream come true. My professor made this an all day trip so I'm going to try and make the best of it! 

A group of us are meeting up at residence and then making our way to the Museum via the TTC tomorrow morning. Here's to a happy travel tomorrow and hope that the rain lets up and no one gets lost along the way.

My hands and feet are so cold

It's 10:25am and the current temperature in the house is 16.2 degrees Celcius. It hasn't gone above 18 degrees since we came back on Monday night.

I've been meaning to watch O Brother, Where Art Thou? since the end of summer and I STILL haven't done so. I honestly don't know what I'm waiting for; all I have to do is put the movie in the DVD player, press play, and enjoy. It's an easy task, but for some reason it doesn't seem like the right time to watch it. 

O Brother, Where Art Thou has been one of my favourite movies since it came out in 2000. It stars George Clooney, John Turturro, and Tim Blake Nelson as three fugitives who escape from jail in search of buried treasure before it gets lost to an approaching lake. They run into some interesting characters along the way, one of them being John Goodman, and even release a hit single. No matter how many times I watch this movie I can still laugh at the same parts and find news ones to giggle to. Oh, did I mention that it's directed by the Cohen brothers? 

To satisfy my craving for now, since I'm in Port Colborne for the weekend and the movie is in Toronto, I read the memorable quotes on Imdb. I also Youtube'd the trailer.

Dodging and Burning

My photography assignment for last week required us to take five pictures and dodge and burn them using Photoshop. In other words, changing the exposure of selected spots to make them darker or lighter. Since they could be pictures of anything, I decided to stick to a theme instead of having five randomly picked images. The Humber Arboretum was the first place that came to mind so I asked my friend Leviana if she wanted to be a model for me and she said yes. So here they are. 

It's probably not that noticeable without the original print right beside it, but dodging and burning helped make the picture look more natural. For example in the last picture with the red umbrella, the trees in the background were extremely dark. Using the dodge tool, I decreased the exposure to make the trees lighter, allowing for more detail to be seen. I don't usually edit my photos in Photoshop, but this is something that I may consider for the future.

I'm drifting in and out of focus with this essay

It's been well over three weeks since my photography professor showed me how to correctly load film into my Holga. I haven't used it once. Hopefully once I'm finished writing this essay I'll be free to explore the area and produce some wicked shots.
