April 6 - Ainslee and I Conquer the Niagara Gorge!

This past Good Friday, Ainslee and I decided to do something we had never done before... explore the Niagara Gorge. Our first mission was to travel down one of those galvanized steel staircases (you know, the ones where you can see all the way down to the bottom) before we got to the path. From there, you could go in two directions: up the river towards Queenston Heights, or down the river towards the whirlpools and Niagara Falls. We decided to head towards the whirlpools.

Modeling off the river and my new hair-do!

Only some of the rocks we passed on our journey!

The weather was absolutely perfect for a hike along the Niagara River. I can honestly say that I look forward to my next visit to the Niagara Gorge when spring is in full gear. Till next time,

New Spring 2012 Mad Men Collection at Banana Republic

Envious of the clothing worn by the characters of AMC's "Mad Men"? Thanks to Banana Republic and "Mad Men" costume designer, Janie Bryant, a second collection is to be released in stores March 1st. Similar to the collection released summer of 2011, buyers can expect to see clothes resembling the 1960's era with an emphasis on the country club.

For the women’s line, expect to see ladylike pieces—think dresses with nipped in waists, cap sleeves, and lots of florals. For the guys, the collection offers argyle vests, bright polos, and checked shirts. (http://www.flare.com/blog/post/56711)

If you can't get to your nearest Banana Republic, have no fear, for a sneak peak of their collection has been posted on Flare Magazine's website. Each picture contains a description of the items styled on the models and prices! Also, I can't get over how similar the male model looks like Jon Hamm in the first image.

Even if I won't be buying any pieces of the new collection (although the cream dress does look fantastic!), looking at these images is making me giddy about the fifth season. March 25, you cannot come soon enough.

Progress

For the past few weeks I have been trying to do yoga every night to improve my balance and flexibility. This picture was taken two weeks ago. At the beginning of that week, I couldn't even extend my arms to reach my ankles, let alone my toes.

More photos to be posted as the semester continues!

August 21, 2008

I was cleaning up my computer's desktop this afternoon when I stumbled upon a folder called, "Boo Boo"...

Three years ago on my 18th birthday, my mom, brother, and I drove to Merritt Island in Welland for an adventure I'll never forget. We ventured on the bike path, with my mom riding her bike and my brother and I on our roller blades.

Eventually we came to a fork in the path where bicyclists and roller bladers had to separate. So, my mom went uphill while my brother and I were expected to blade downhill. For those of you who know my brother, he has a competitive nature, so he challenged me to a race down hill.

Everything was going well, until the path leveled out again and my blades trailed through a pile of gravel, or what I call "the gravelly pit of death". Before I knew it, my left leg was dragging along the pavement and all I felt was pain.

The best part about me falling, is that there was a woman walking towards us on the path and she witnessed the entire thing. What a sight that must have been for her. "Hey family. I was walking along the bike path today, when I saw this girl completely wipe out on her roller blades and collide with the pavement. Not your average sight to see, but more interesting than the squirrel I saw a few minutes previous to this incident."

Anyways, where was I?

Oh, right. Me being an idiot and where the shortest shorts possible while rollerblading.

My mom had no idea what happened and she was waiting anxiously up at the top of the hill.

The next hour consisted of my brother and my mom helping me get back to the parking lot while my scrape is burning with pain. Our hike back to the truck must have been pretty entertaining as many people stared as they passed us.

Just picture a girl with one of her short legs tucked into her underwear, crying, while her brother is pulling her, with his roller blades, down the path. Oh, and a very supportive mother biking along side them.

This second best part? One week after my birthday I was moving away to my first year of university and had to spend orientation week with a bandage over my leg. Nothing says "celebration" like puss and bandages.

I look like I'm ready to hit the beach, not conquer bike paths

Casually opening presents as if the gash on my leg doesn't exist

My first time skating in yeeeaaarrs

A few weekends ago, while I was battling a terrible cough and cold, I received a text message from my brother asking if I wanted to go skating. I thought he was referring to the public skating at West Side Arena in Port Colborne, but boy did he have a surprise for me...

His backyard had flooded with water, froze, and created a solid sheet of ice! Ok some sections were a little iffy and had water breaking through, but other than that it provided a great skate!

I haven't been skating in roughly 6 years. Combine that with my inability to skate well and I had a bit of a rocky start on my skates. However, with time I was able to skate freely across the ice.

Tyler even tried to teach me how to lift a hockey puck in the air while you're shooting it. The only problem being that I was using the wrong stick so it proved a little bit more challenging.

Even though I could barely speak and I was coughing every ten seconds, I still had the time of my life.

My first day working as an intern at Judy Inc taught me many things:

1. I need to improve my ripping-pages-out-of-magazines technique - thankfully I have the next four months to work on this

2. I can successfully go through a full day without feeling tired (a big thank you to myself going to bed at 10pm last night)

3. I love meeting new people

4. The model featured in the image below is actually a man named, Andrej Pejic

You can look at more pictures from the photoshoot at Fashion Magazine's website and you should also check out the video! Super cool!

After one day, I am looking forward to the opportunities waiting for me in the upcoming months.
